2023/2024 Redruth Squad as of 29/06/2023

Alan Nettle29 Jun 2023 - 11:07

Building nicely for the new season.

The squad so far is:

Props
Tommy Phillips: Over 100 games in National 2 and wearer of the Red Blazer, also the best fisherman in the squad.
Luke Barnes: Not just a powerful prop can turn his hand to Hooker and did well in the back row last season. Likes a big tackle!
Bailey Williams: Made great progress last season and is definitely one to watch, catches the eye with his powerful carries.
Jess Tompsett The powerful front rower is another Red Blazer wearer and also holds the coveted title of top beard at Redruth RFC.
Cam Leigh Another who made great progress in 22/23 his first senior season. Did not look out of place when making the 1st XV squad.

Hooker
MacKenzie Oliver
Very mobile hooker with a solid set piece game. Stepped into the back row at times last season and also popped up once at centre!
Jarrod Hambly: Did well in the 2nd XV last season and when stepping up to the 1st XV.
Matt Pritchard
Matt signing from Falmouth RFC also represented Cornwall u20s for the past 2 seasons as well as this year being selected for the SW u20 regional side that took on the North and the Midlands. We look forward to seeing Matt in a red shirt.

2nd Row
Edd Pascoe: Very skilful player, solid in the scrum and great line-out technician. Equally at home playing at flanker. Wearer of the Red Blazer and also the best musician in the squad, but modestly doesn't blow his own trumpet because he plays the Trombone.
Luke Hattam:One of the stalwarts of the club and wearer of the Red Blazer. Powerful scrummager and athletic in the line-out.

Back-Row
Ben Fox: Captain again for the new season and leads from the front, respected by all in the club and a wearer of the Red Blazer.
Sam Stevens Former Captain Sam is equally at home across the back-row and as one of the clubs farmers is a man truely outstanding in his field.
Jack King: 1st XV regular last season improving with every game. Fierce tackler with a great turn of speed.
Kaiden Carne: Last season’s 2nd XV captain who did well when called into the 1st XV.

Scrum-Half:
Dan Rutter: Very skilful rugby player, excellent kicker from hand or for goal. Could just as easily be listed under fly- half and also did well at centre and full back last season. Redruth’s Mr.Versatility!
Adam Hall Had a great 22/23 becoming a regular member of the 1st XV squad. Occasionally popped up at full-back and fly-half when called upon.
Joe Tanswell Joe had some impressive performances at Scrum Half for us last season and all whilst balancing his uni and work life in Wales which made his playing involvement difficult. Now he’s completed his studies, he’s back and with us in Cornwall.

Fly-Half
Rhys Brownfield
Equally at home at centre Rhys will be a great addition to the squad. After cutting his rugby teeth in the Redruth junior section he has gained experience at a number of Cornish clubs and won county honours.
Dean Wills: Made his 1st XV debut last season when still a colt and did not look out of place.

Centre
Jack Simmons: Elegant runner with good pace and solid in defence, occasionally pops up on the wing. Wearer of the Red Blazer but not a fan of the plastic pitches!
Sam James: Made his 1st XV debut last season when still a colt and impressed with his powerful carries.

Wing
Lewis Thomas The 'youthful' strong running wing became a 1st XV regular last season. Can turn his hand to full back and ended up last season in the Centre.
Owen Wildgoose Broke into the 1st XV last season on the back of strong performances with the 2's. Will be looking to kick on in 23/24.

Full-Back
Charlie Levick Charlie has represented Exeter Chiefs Academy, Cornwall U20, Hartpury University, Penryn and was also involved in this years Tamar Cup and County championship squad.
Jayden Oakes: Made his first team debut last season and can also turn his hand to centre or wing.

Those flying the nest are Fraser Honey to Rams and Brad Howe to Plymouth Albion. Both of these clubs are in National 1 with stated ambitions for promotion. Good luck both and remember you will always be welcome back at Redruth.
