Super Sunday for the Reds

It was a very happy home side at final whistle as the Reds put on a show of excellent rugby. All the hard work on the training field came to fruition as they overcame a Plymouth Argaum side that was much more competitive than the score line suggests. Indeed it you were to add up the possession time it would have been quite even but the Reds had a the greater cutting edge and took their chances well.

The Reds kicked off playing towards Hellfire Corner and made a very fast start. Good handling and drive through the tackles created an opening for No.8 Ruby Lambrick who made no mistake for the first try. The Reds kept up the pressure and some good handling and passing created a try for Rhiannon Kevern, this time Lambrick converting. A try for Lowri Cooper soon followed and then a great burst down the middle saw Hayley Buzza go over for the Reds 4th try on 13 minutes. At this point one feared for the opposition but they proved those fears to be unjustified. The Argaum side bossed the ball for the next 20 minutes, they retained possession superbly making the Reds live off scraps. A great run by Argaum centre Christine Hall cut the Reds apart and she almost made it to the line but a superb chase back by the Reds just prevented a score. Right at the end of the half the Reds added a fantastic try, moving the ball from their own 22, R.Kevern was put into space and she showed her paces by sprinting in from 50 metres for a converted try.
Half-time: Redruth 29 - 0 Plymouth Argaum

The Reds started the second period well and a good run by Lambrick, who had a fine match, finished off a period of Redruth pressure. The Reds were controlling play keeping the Plymouth side pinned in their own territory but they were unable to add to their points tally due to some great defending. Suddenly the visitors broke out and some good passing and support play saw them sweep down the field for a superb try in Piggy Lane Corner. 34-5 to the Reds on 60 minutes. A period of even play followed and then the Reds finished with a flourish. The Reds scrum drove their opponents off the ball and some good passing ended with Cooper adding her second try, Lambrick hitting the post with the conversion attempt. Time was almost up but a great take and run from the restart got the Reds back to the 22 and the move was ended by Trudy Watts going over under the posts. The conversion by Lambrick brought the final whistle.

The Reds were full value for their win today but the visitors showed what they can do and played a full part in the affairs. Both teams played with a smile on their face and this was a great advert for Ladies rugby. The Reds have next weekend off before they travel to Helston for their next league outing.
