Redruth Rugby Under 12’s travelled on Sunday 1st October 2017 to Exeter Arena home of Exeter Saracens to participate in Premiership Rugby‘s 2017/18 Under 12’s Land Rover Cup hosted and run by the Exeter Chiefs.
Redruth U12’s were placed in a group with Newton Abbot, Torquay and Helston. Playing Newton Abbot first Redruth came away with a three trys to nil victory. Next up was Torquay, the young Reds coming away with a two trys to nil victory. The final group game was against fellow Cornish side Helston. In a keenly contested game Redruth came away with the victory winning by one try to nil.
By winning all 3 group matches Redruth U12’s progressed through to the next stage of the Competition being placed in the top pool with fellow pool winners Topsham, Penzance & Newlyn and Bideford. This pool would compete for the 2017/18 Premiership Rugby Land Rover Cup.
First up for Redruth came Topsham, with no quarter given the game resulted in a hard fought nil-nil draw. Next up was another Cornish team, Penzance and Newlyn, Redruth coming out winners by three trys to nil. Facing Redruth in the final game was Bideford, this game being a winner take all, whoever was victorious would be crowned Under 12 Land Rover Cup Champions for 2017/18.
Redruth started with pace and scored early in the game, followed in quick succession by three more scores, the final result Redruth winning four trys to nil to be crowned 2017/18 Land Rover Cup Champions.
Overall Redruth played six games, won five, drew one, scored 13 trys and conceded none.
In addition to being crowned champions the Redruth Under 12’s will now attend the Premiership Rugby Final next May and represent Exeter Chiefs in the parade of champions.
The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all those in attendance and was hosted superbly by the Exeter Chiefs.
