St Austell came with the expectations of dominating a Redruth team which had to make some major changes in its squad due to very low numbers of players on the Reds bench.
However the st Austell forwards came up against a Redruth pack with other ideas on its mind.
The Reduth front row and back three forwards put up an outstanding battle on attacking and defending scrums and definitely came away winning the battle up front in the scrummaging department, even with the st Austell forwards having the luxury of being able to change their pack on three separate occasions but not once did they find any sign of a chink in the Reds forwards armour.
This left the backs having to take up the mantle for st Austell and this is were they found the weakness on the reds side on todays outing.
With several players playing for the first time in the reds back line along with players also having to play out of their normal position in the Reds back line it was more than enough for the very strong St Austell three quarters to take control and dominate the reds defence.
However there were still plenty of plays early on in the game that may have given a different outcome, up untill the untimely injury to josh, the Reds (normally fly half) playing today at inside centre.
This then meant further movement in the numbers short Redruth side.
The st Austell backs were allowed it must be said far to much time and space at setting up their attacks and this was capitalised on by them and it became a hard fought battle in the backs that st Austell came away with as the victors.
Redruths man of the match went to OJ playing as loose head prop. Well done mate.
Also a big thank you to the rest of the forwards for their big big effort today, along with a great effort put in by Kieran and Jowan playing their first game today against a strong St Austell back line.
Well done also to Jack w and Daniel for playing out of their normal strong positions to cover for shortages on the bench.
Also great effort today by Jack w for covering so much ground in the fullback position while struggling with a cold.
Josh has suffered soft tissue damage to his knee and will be out of action for most of the forthcoming week, but I am sure we all look forward to his fast return with the enthusiasm, flare and passion that we know he plays with. SEE YA SOON MATE.
Cheers AVE
