Redruth 2s are on the road this coming Saturday when they travel to face Torquay. This is the third attempt to play this fixture, earlier matches on 24th January and 7 February had to be postponed because of a flooded pitch. It comes from having a ground next to the sea.
The Reds travel in 6th place after last weeks narrow 22-20 defeat at Truro where they came close to toppling the city side’s unbeaten home record. Despite e giving the Truro defence a proper battering in the closing stages, the hosts hung on.
Torquay are currently in 9th place after squeezing out a 29-28 win away at Saltash. Back in October Redruth won the home encounter 21-12
Redruth has a long relationship with Torquay with the first match played between our two clubs in season 1892/93 at a time when the seaside town were one of the best sides in Devon. This was the first of regular fixtures between our two sides and a trip to Torquay invariably kicked off a new season. The Devon side usually managed to take the honours at the away games, so much so, that a Redruth victory in 1949, the beginning of our 75th season, was the first away win for the Reds since 1910.
