Match postponed - waterlogged pitch, possibly to be rescheduled for 07/02/25.
Reds 2’s are off on their travels again, this time across the border to take on Torquay. The Reds travel in 5th place after a 33-24 win over Plymstock Oaks at Trewirgie last week. However, they are only separated from St Ives in 4th place, on points difference.
Their opponents start the match in 9th place following a 17-all draw up at Barnstaple last week. They have certainly shown the ability to score points and only have a -8 points difference. Back in October they lost 21-12 here at Redruth but proved to be a very physical side. The Reds stormed to a 21-5 lead at half time but had to man the barricades after the break to keep the visitors in check.
Torquay are one of Redruth’s oldest opponents with fixtures going back to the 1890s. The seaside club were one of Devon’s best sides until well after the Second World War. In the 1950s Redruth’s season traditionally started with a trip to Torquay, and we invariably came back empty handed. A Reds win in 1949 was our first up there for 39 years.
Referee: Andy Coles.
