With the 1st XV away in the north west, Redruth 2s take centre stage this coming Saturday with a home match against Saltash at the Rec. It follows a nail-biting one point victory down at Penryn last week. The game not only provided a lot of drama, a last minute penalty from Nat Dart snatching the narrowest of wins, but gave Alan Nettle the chance for the cheesiest headline of the season so far.
The result sees the Reds in fourth place in the table, but only points difference away from the second spot and they will be looking to pile on a few of those points this coming weekend against the visitors from the far east of Cornwall. Saltash finished second in Counties Tribute Two in the season the Reds won promotion and followed them up at the end of last season.
However Saltash have found it hard going at this level and are currently in 11th place. Their last outing saw them ahead at home to Barnstaple but, in the dying minutes, the Devon side snatched a try to send the Ashes to their seventh defeat of the season.
Saltash are one of the newest clubs in Cornwall having been founded in 1969. Despite their close proximity to Devon they decided to affiliate to the CRFU unlike their near neighbours, the now dormant Torpoint & St Columba RFC who are affiliated to the Devon RFU.
