Redruth 2s make the trip to Devon this coming weekend to take on Newton Abbot. Their last outing saw a hard-fought bonus point win against Barnstaple 2s. That victory sees them in 3rd place in the table, separated from the leaders, Paignton and second placed Wiveliscombe, only on points difference.
Newton Abbot are currently in 9th place with two wins out of their five games so far. Narrow wins over Saltash and Torquay at the beginning of the season were followed by defeats to St Ives, Barnstaple II and, on their last outing, a 34-24 loss away at Kingsbridge.
The club was founded in 1873 as the Newton Abbot Volunteers Rugby Club, adopting their all-white kit in 1903. Fixtures between our two clubs go back to the 1890s when Newton, along with Torquay and Totnes, were among the Devon sides on those early fixture lists. They currently play their rugby on the edge of Kingsteignton, not far from Newton Abbot racecourse.
