If you cannot make the trip to Exeter then get down to the Rec to cheer on Redruth 2s who host Torquay Athletic in Counties 1 Western West. The Reds start the day at the top of the table after a fine 32-24 away win at Plymstock Oaks, one of the pacesetters in this league.
Torquay sit in seventh place in the table but their results so far suggest they are not coming to make up the numbers. Their only win was a 31-7 drubbing of Barnstaple 2s last week. However, they pushed Newton Abbot all the way, eventually losing buy a single point, and scored 41 against Plymstock Oaks on the opening day of the season, although their hosts managed 55.
Redruth has a long relationship with Torquay with the first match played between our two clubs in season 1892/93 at a time when the seaside town were one of the best sides in Devon. This was the first of regular fixtures between our two sides and a trip to Torquay invariably kicked off a new season. The Devon side usually managed to take the honours at the away games, so much so, that a Redruth victory in 1949, the beginning of our 75th season, was the first away win for the Reds since 1910.
