Wiveliscombe v Redruth 2s.
Redruth 2s get their season underway this coming weekend without having to face the continuous string of away fixtures which blighted their first season at this level. The fact they overcame that start to finish a creditable 5th in the table shows a tremendous amount of effort and character.
Having said that, their first match is away and the farthest distance they will travel this season with the 250 mile round trip to North Somerset to face Wiveliscombe. Their opponents finished one place and just two points below Redruth last season. Honours were even last year with the Reds winning 22-14 at home. But the away game saw Redruth unable to turn possession and territory into points and they went down 36-11. One casualty of the game was Rob Hulme’s achilles which ruptured while he was running the line.
