Redruth 2nds face a tough game this coming Saturday with a home fixture against Pirates Amateurs who currently top Counties 1 Tribute Western West. The Pirates have been the form side this season and have only lost three games so far, both their matches against Wiveliscombe and a narrow two point away defeat at 2nd place side Paignton. Earlier this season they inflicted a 29-17 defeat on the Reds down at Penzance.
Last weekend Redruth ran in seven tries in their 45-10 win at Penryn while Pirates didn’t have to break a sweat after being handed a walk-over when vsitors Bideford were unable to raise a side.
Pirates Amateurs can well consider themselves to be the true successors of the original Penzance and Newlyn side that was formed in 1945 when, to the amazement of almost everyone in Cornish rugby, the Penzance and Newlyn clubs decided to bury a considerable number of hatchets and merge.
