On Saturday the 2's continue on their quest to win the league when they host Helston RFC with a 2.30pm kick-off.
Helston play their rugby at the King George V Playing Field and have 2 pitches and a very nice clubhouse. They run a mini-junior section and also have a Woman's team. The club was formed as recently as 1965 and in the 80's won several Cornwall junior Cups. In 1996 the club qualified for the final of the Pilkington Shield (now the Powergen Vase), which is some achievement for a small (or any) club as it was the largest club rugby competition in the world, with 501 teams competing. They eventually lost at Twickenham on the 4 May 1996, against Medicals RFC (16–6) from Newcastle.
This season is going quite well for Helston and they have won 7 of their 12 outings. This leaves them in 6th place on 28 points. Their top try score is Finlay Holding (No.8) with 4 and their top points scorer is James Elliott (Fly-Half)with 63.
The Redruth 2nds continued their winning ways last time out on December 9th with a hard fought away win at 3rd place Perranporth by 17-13. This keeps up their 100% win record and leaves them top of the table on 59 points, 3 in front of 2nd place Saltash.
At present their leading scorer Dean Wills is also the Nations leading scorer with 190 points and Jayden Oakes is the leagues highest try scorer with 11 despite being out recently with an injury.
The 2nds also had a run out on Boxing Day when they defeated a Camborne Barbarians side made up of Veor and Camborne 2nds players by 46-7.
