With a healthy mix of young enthusiastic talent, a few wise old heads and several somewhere in between, Redruth 'Mighty2's' travelled to Tregorrick Park for a long awaited fixture against St Austell 2nd XV.
With 3 of the Reds contingent unable to make it at the very last minute, the 12 remaining players prepared for a busy afternoon of running, cover running and even more running ably led by captain Peter Joyce. St Austell kindly leant a player to make it 13 a side.
Redruth took early advantage of that extra space on the field and committed to an expansive game plan, playing some 'champagne rugby' from the very start. Before long, tries were coming thick and fast for the Reds.
Stewart Whitworth, sponsored by 'hold your hamstrings together miracle tape' showed his class as he enjoyed an injury free day scoring a hat-trick of tries. Craig Bonds duly followed suit by bagging a hat-trick for himself too. Dan Rutter, who had landed awkwardly in the opening minute, hurting his wrist managed to play on, albeit limp wristed, but also touched down for three tries after some pin point accurate cross kicking from fly half Brett Rule.
Stalwart style efforts from forwards Rob Fuca, Adam Smith, Pete Joyce and Neil Turner kept the ball in Redruth's hands for long periods of time allowing the deceptively quick (running not thinking that is!) Tommy Lee Southworth to grab a brace of tries for the team.
Young Jack Williams enjoyed plenty of 'go forward' ball on the wing well supported by Jason Pengilly, together causing great problems to the Saints cover defence.
Many thanks to Richard Conybeare who refereed the game superbly allowing both teams to make the most of the ball in play.
