On Saturday Redruth welcome to the Recreation Ground familiar opponents in Henley Hawks RFC. Henley will be making the, by National 2 South standards, relatively short trip from Oxfordshire.
Henley play their rugby at Dry Leas and boast a superb clubhouse complex and 4G artificial pitch. They have been regular opponents for the Reds in the National leagues and though they are now in National 2 South have, in the not too distant past, played at Championship and National 1 level.
Our opponents are currently lying in 5th place on 60 points having won 11 of their 18 matches.
Last week the Hawks beat bottom side Westcliff by 48 - 24. Henley's top points scorer is C.Cookland (full-back) on 79 points and their top try scorer is R.Norville (winger) on an impressive 12 trys.
A few weeks ago these two sides fought out a 21-21 draw, a game featuring superb gutsy defence from both teams.
The Henley club as I'm sure you are aware suffered the tragic loss of one of their players, David Hyde, after the 1st game of this season, this it goes without saying overshadows everything that happens on the pitch. On Saturday their will be a collection for David's family, please give generously. As a mark of respect Redruth will not be using the number 5, David’s number.
The Reds come into this match after an excellent 21 - 28 away win at Old Albanian maintaining the teams unbeaten away record. This leaves the Reds in 3rd place on 69 points still in touch with the top two sides, with leaders Clifton 4 points ahead and 2nd place Esher 3 points to the good. Esher though have 2 games in hand over Clifton and 1 game in hand over Redruth. Worthing are just 1 point behind the Reds on 68 points.
So far this season only 1 player has featured in all 18 league matches and if you read these previews you will be aware that must be Richard Brown and amazingly 42 players in total have featured. Top of the tries are Richard Brown 11(total yards in open play 0), Jack Oulton 8 & Kyle Bradley 7. Frazer Honey tops the points tally with 99 with Will Trewin is on 64. But if you believe the RFU website then the Reds have another demon with the boot, none other than the cornerstone of our pack, loose-head prop Craig Williams. According to the RFU Craig popped over two penalty goals last week against OA's! Wiil Trewin and Craig Williams clearly identical twins!
