Hard to believe that the season is almost over and this is the last preview I will write until September. Whatever happens on Saturday this has been a season to remember with the Reds being in the fight for the league title all the way through, indeed although unlikely it is still possible for the Reds to top the table but that would mean Esher losing at Rochford 100 which whist being possible is not probable.
This final away trip to the far flung reaches of the East Midlands will be no easy end of season jolly for the Reds. Leicester Lions are a very good team and are in great form having won their last 6 matches. This run of results has lifted them to 5th place with an outside chance of overhauling Worthing for 4th. The Lions have 97 points having won 19 of their 28 matches and have not lost at home since September 11th.
Last time out Leicester travelled just down the road to Hinckley and came away with a convincing 23-50 victory over their local rivals, the post match beer must have tasted very sweet!
Redruth won the encounter at the Recreation ground by by 27-5 on the opening day of the season.
The Reds come into this match after a thumping, nine try, 63-14 home win over Barnstaple which included a hat-trick of tries for Jack Oulton in 9 second half minutes. A superb crown of around 1000 came to cheer the Reds on and make the home season finale one to remember. This win has secured 2nd place for the Reds as Clifton lost their local derby with Dings, but unfortunately Esher easily dispatched Worthing to stay top. Esher are on 122, Redruth 118 and Clifton 111, the Reds only trail Esher by virtue of having less bonus points.
So far this season only 1 player has featured in all 29 matches and yes, you know who it is, Richard 'Everpresent' Brown. Top of the tries are Richard Brown 16, Jack Oulton 14, Kyle Bradley & Will Trewin both on 13. Frazer Honey tops the points tally with 213 and Will Trewin is on 125. So far this season 44 players have taken the field for the Reds. Redruth continue to have the best defensive record in the league having only conceded 465 points, 85 less than next best side Leicester Lions who have played one game less than the Reds. The Reds points difference is also the best in the league at +489, 22 better than next best Esher.
The team coach will be making a detour to Cardiff on the way home to allow the squad to sample the cultural delights of the Welsh Capital!
