Another crucial match for the Reds this Saturday as they travel to Bristol to take on Dings Crusaders, which by Redruth standards makes this a local derby.
In 2014 Dings moved from their Lockleaze ground to Shaftesbury Park just down the road in Frenchay. The new ground is part of an £8 million pound sports facility with a 250 seater main stand, plush club house, a gym and two court sports halls, eight changing rooms, two full size floodlight pitches including the main pitch which has a 4G artificial surface, parking for up to 220 cars and multiple junior pitches. This facility is a world away from Locleaze but many will miss the charm and atmosphere of the old club with its sloping pitch. Dings have 3 senior sides, a full mini-junior set up as well as Ladies and girls sides.
Dings are currently in 7th place on 77 points having a beautifully symmetrical record having won 13, lost 13 and drawn 1 of their 27 matches. Last time out Dings travelled to Hinckley and came away with a 29-34 victory.
Our opponent’s top points scorer is Thomas Price (fly-half) on 141 points and their top try scorer is Thomas Anderson (hooker) on 15. Thomas seems to be a popular name Bristol way with at least another four Thomas's in the Dings squad. So if you hear the call Tom's under the high ball don't be surprised to see a collision!
Earlier in the season Redruth won the encounter at the Recreation ground by by 15-0.
The Reds come into this match after a thumping, nine try, 59-5 home win over Rochford 100. This win has kept the Reds in 2nd on 108 pts, 4 points behind leaders Esher , 4 points clear of Clifton and 8 points clear of Worthing.
So far this season only 1 player has featured in all 27 matches and yes, you know who it is, Richard 'The fastest hooker in the West' Brown. Top of the tries are Richard Brown 16, Will Trewin on 13 and Jack Oulton & Shaun Buzza both on 11. Frazer Honey tops the points tally with 184 and Will Trewin is on 125. So far this season 44 players have taken the field for the Reds. Redruth continue to have the best defensive record in the league having only conceded 441 points, 74 less than next best side Leicester Lions who have played one game less than the Reds. The Reds points difference is also impressive being +419 just 6 less than leaders Esher.
