On Saturday Redruth welcome for the first time Rochford Hundred RFC who make the long trip down from Southend as East meets West.
Our opponents play their rugby at the appropriately named The Rugby Park and are a relatively new club having only been formed in 1962, much like your correspondent! The club run 4 senior sides as well as a ladies, girls and mini-junior sides.
Our opponents are in their first season at Level 4 and are having a difficult season with only 7 wins from their 25 games. The club finds itself in 14th place with 41 points, but will definitely be playing at Level 4 next season due to the league reorganisation.
Last time out Rochford secured a home win by 33-26 over Hinckley, they have managed 2 away wins the most notable being the recent 24-27 win at Henley which was a superb effort.
Canterbury's top points scorer is Chris Dudman (Fly-Half) on 86 points and their top try scorers are Maciu Nabogi (No.8) on 7 and Harry Hudson (flanker) & Mark Billings (wing) both on 6.
Earlier in the season the Reds won at Rochford by 28-34 and were hanging on desperately at the end as the home side almost pulled off the win.
The Reds come into this match after a cracking 17-22 win at Worthing, a victory built on team spirit, belief and a good old shove in the scrum. This win leaves the Reds in 2nd place on 103 points only 4 behind leaders Esher, Clifton are 3rd on 101 and Worthing 4th on 97 and now effectively out of the fight for the league title.
Richard Brown remains an ever present playing in all 26 matches. Top of the tries are Richard Brown 15, Jack Oulton 11 and Will Trewin 11. Frazer Honey tops the points tally with 170 with Will Trewin not too far back on 115. The Reds have comfortably the best defence in the league conceding only 436 pts, 69 less than next best Leicester Lions who have played 1 game less than the Reds.
