On Saturday Redruth welcome Guernsey Raiders RFC who become the 2nd team in a row to travel to the Recreation Ground using the medium of air travel for at least part of their journey. That has to be a first for Redruth RFC.
Guernsey play their rugby at Footes Lane in St Peter Port and have excellent facilities, a large modern clubhouse overlooking the pitch and a superb grandstand, the traditionalist though may not be so keen on the tartan running track circling the pitch.
Our opponents are having a good season. After an opening day defeat away to Worthing they went on a 7 game winning streak to briefly top the league. Who stopped this run? Redruth of course when the Reds shrugged off the effects of food poisoning (the great power of Imodium) to defeat the Islanders by 27-21. After playing only 19 games Guernsey now stand in 7th place with 59 points having won 12 games.
Last week Guernsey thumped Hinckley by 57-17.
Guernsey's top points scorer is Owen Thomas (Fly-Half) on 128 points and their top try scorer is Anthony Armstrong (winger) on 10 trys.
Look out for former Redruth player Hugo Culverhouse in the Guernsey side, the big back 5 forward is hard to miss!
On Guernsey's only other visit to the Recreation Ground the Reds prevailed by 32-5 in January 2019..
The Reds come into this match after a battling 32-12 defeat at Esher, the first away defeat of the season in a game that was closer than the score suggests. The Reds were undone in the 2nd half by a 3 try burst in 11 mins from Phil Cokanasiga who was on loan to Esher from Rosslyn Park who had in turn loaned him from London Irish. Redruth though remain firmly in the fight for the league title and are now in 2nd place with 84 pts only 1 behind leaders Clifton. Esher and Worthing follow only 2 further points behind both with a game in hand. Esher and Worthing will play their match in hand against each other on 19th March.
So far this season only 1 player has featured in all 22 league matches and if you read these previews you will be aware that must be Richard Brown and amazingly 42 players in total have featured. Top of the tries are Richard Brown 11 & Jack Oulton 10. Frazer Honey tops the points tally with 116 with Will Trewin not too far back on 90.
Referee: Max Weston
Assistant Referees: Ian Pengelly & Grant Mossford.
Pre-match meals served in Richard Sharp Lounge cooked by Roseworthy Farm Caterers (roast beef dinner followed by cheeseboard) and game entry £25(£15 for members). Add a bottle of wine £10

Post match there will be music in the main bar from Jack Kessel who of course needs no introduction to the Recreation Ground.
Look out for team news on Friday morning.
