Only two weeks after the thrilling victory over Clifton the Reds unbeaten away record will again face a stern challenge when they travel to London to take on Esher RFC. The team will be travelling up on Friday to ensure they are as well prepared as possible for this crucial match.

Esher play their rugby at Molesey Road, Esher, Surrey and have excellent facilities, a pleasant clubhouse at the end of the ground and a decent grandstand for viewing the match. From memory their pitch also used to feature very big in goal areas.

Esher are currently in 3rd place on 77 points having won 15 of their 20 matches. They have recently hit a bit of a sticky patch after looking for some time to be firm favourites for the top spot. Defeats in their last two matches at home to Henley by 17-39 and away to Hinckley by 15-13 have dented their title challenge but kept things much more exciting of the rest of us! The meeting between these two sides earlier in the season was the classic tale of a game of two halves, or at least a game of 43 mins and 37 mins! After being run ragged for the first 43 mins to be 34-7 down the Reds staged a stirring fight back but finally ran out of time to lose the encounter 26-34.
Our opponent’s top points scorer is Sam Morley (fly-half) on 188 points and their top try scorer is Harvey Scott (No.8) on 10 trys.

The Reds come into this match after a thumping 40-0 home win over jet setters Westcliff. This win has kept the Reds in 1st place on 84 pts, 4 points ahead of 2nd place Clifton and 7 points ahead of Esher and Worthing. These two sides have a game in hand against each other.
So far this season only 1 player has featured in all 21 matches and that is of course Richard Brown. Top of the tries are Richard Brown 11, Jack Oulton 10 with Will Trewin now on 8. Frazer Honey tops the points tally with 124 and Will Trewin has now scored his maiden century for the Reds and is on 100 (not out). So far this season 43 players have taken the field for the Reds.

Your correspondent sadly will not be able to make the trip to Esher as he is watching ‘We Will Rock You’ the musical based on songs by Queen at the Hall for Cornwall. Let’s hope the Reds are singing ‘We are the Champions’ on their trip back from Esher.
