1st chance to see National 2 South table toppers Redruth after the Christmas and New Year League break.
On Saturday the Reds welcome Barnes, who have become regular visitors to the Recreation Ground over the years, from their West London home. If you are unsure of where Barnes is think back to watching the Oxford/Cambridge University boat race and you may remember the contestants passing under Barnes bridge and you won't be too far out.
Barnes are currently in 9th place and have an almost perfect symmetrical record, won 5, drawn 4, lost 5 with a points difference of -6 points.
The statistic of 4 draws stands out as something of an oddity, I hope some statto is working out if that is a record for the National leagues.
Their last match against Henley at home finished finished as a draw but only due to of a great act of sportsmanship from the Henley team.
In the last play of the game Henley were awarded a very kickable penalty due to a Barnes player not rolling away, the issue though was the Barnes player did not roll away because he had been knocked out in the tackle! Henley instead of going for the posts chose to kick the ball out of play to end the game as a draw. It is hard to determine Barnes best performance of the season but if I had to chose it would be their away, yes you guessed it, draw at Esher.
Barnes top points scorer is Joshua Hammett (fly-half) 94 pts and their top try scorers are Paul O'Dell (winger), Jordan Souter (centre) and Joshua Hammett all with 4.
The Reds ended 2021 on a high with a hard fought 19-3 away win at Barnstaple. Probably the most remarkable thing about the game was that for the second week in a row neither side managed a point after half-time. The win leaves the Reds top of the pile with 56 points, this being made up of 12 wins and 8 bonus points. Their points difference is an impressive +196.
So far this season only 1 player (Richard Brown) has appeared in all 14 league matches and a remarkable 39 players in total have featured. Top of the tries are Jack Oulton 8, Kyle Bradley & Richard Brown on 7. Frazer Honey tops the points tally with 99.
