This weekend the Reds make the long trip to Kent to take on Canterbury, just the 650 mile round trip!
The Reds will travel in good spirits after defeating a determined Bury St.Edmunds side last time out by 31-18. This victory lifts the Reds to the dizzy heights of 1st position, level on 38 points with Esher (the only team to defeat the Reds this season). It's very tight at the top with the top 4 sides being separated by only 2 points although the Reds do have a game in hand.
The travelling squad will be hoping that this trip is more straightforward than the last two; the Westcliff away match saw a coach breakdown on the M25 and a 2am hotel arrival and the Guernsey expedition saw the squad hit by food poisoning, luckily Imodium came to the rescue!
So far this season 7 players have featured in all 9 league matches and a remarkable 31 players in total have featured. Top of the tries are Jack Oulton & Kyle Bradley both with 6. Frazer Honey tops the points tally with 84 but then again he does take most of the kicks and all of the ones just in front of the posts!
Our hosts have had a mixed season with a playing record of won 3, drawn 1 and lost 5, but their points difference of only -23 shows that most of their matches have been tight affairs and their performances have been better that the plain statistics indicate. Unfortunately their last fixture, away to much improved Hinckley, fell victim to Covid19 as one of their players tested positive just before the team were about to travel. The match being postponed on advice from National League Rugby. Subsequently Canterbury find themselves in 12th place on 19 points but do have a game in hand. This is the first fixture between the two sides for a few years Canterbury being relegated from National 1 after the Covid19 curtailed 2019/2020 season.
Look out for teams news on Friday morning and follow the match on Radio Cornwall.
