Guernsey Raiders v Redruth – 2pm Kick-off
On Friday evening the Reds travel to Southampton for an overnight stay prior to an early mooring day trip to the beautiful Channel island of Guernsey to take on Guernsey Raiders in what could be their toughest test of the season so far.
Guernsey play their rugby at Footes Lane, St.Peter Port and boast an impressive stadium and clubhouse.
After their opening day loss at Worthing, the islanders have gone on a 7 match unbeaten run, this is all the more impressive when you note that 5 of those matches have been away from home. Guernsey have specialised in narrow margin victories with 4 wins being by 7 points or less. Indeed for a side with 7 wins from 8 matches the points difference of +43 is surprisingly low especially so when compared with the Reds points difference of +150. The Raiders currently sit proudly on the top of the league with 31 points from 8 games.
The Raiders have a couple of links to the Reds, their assistant coach Luke Jones and forward Hugo Culverhouse have both played for the Reds in the not too distant past.
The Reds will be smarting after tasting league defeat last Saturday against an Esher side who were superb on the day. This was the Reds first defeat since November 2019. Let’s hope the next 23 months are just as fruitful or is that asking too much? This leaves the Reds in 3rd with 29 points from 7 games.
So far this season 9 players have featured in all 7 league matches. Top of the tries are Jack Oulton 6, Kyle Bradley 4, Steele Barker and Sam Stevens 3. Frazer Honey tops the points tally with 61 but then again he does take most of the kicks!
The Reds will be cheered on by a sizable travelling contingent led by Peter Flack who are spending a weekend on the island sampling various local beverages.
Look out for team news on Friday morning and tune into Radio Cornwall to follow the match.
