Redruth v Old Redcliffians
Saturday 30th November 2019 – Kick-off 2.30pm
Referee: Neil Sweeney
Assistant Referees: Ian Pengelly & Stephen Ward
On Saturday the Reds welcome Old Reds in what we would consider, Nat 2 wise, as a local derby and what they would probably consider to be a long arduous away trip! The clubs have met 4 times previously and the stats do not make good reading for the Reds. Two years ago Old Reds were given a Nat 2 baptism of fire at Hellfire Corner as the Reds swept them aside by 58-10, but since that game it has been the Old Reds who have been the dominant side with 3 comfortable victories.
Our visitors currently sit in 12th place with 17 points, their best performance so far probably being a 23-18 away win at Westcliff. Missing from the Old Reds side this season (phew!) will be prolific wing Henry Bird who ended last season with 26 tries, a good few of them against the Reds. This was even more remarkable when you consider that the Old Reds finished the season in 12th place.
Last Saturday the Old Reds fought out a 10-10 draw with Sutton & Epsom a side that we trounced by 49-12 only the week before, hopefully this is a form guide that will prove to be accurate on Saturday.
The Reds come into the game looking to bounce back after the recent run of good results hit the buffers last Saturday with a 24-19 defeat at Westcliff. This leaves the Reds in 6th place with 37 points. The Reds top points scorer so far is Fraser Honey on 80 and the top try scorer is Matt Shepherd with 6.
Let’s give it the big Hellfire roar on Saturday and get behind the Reds.
Why not get to the ground early and watch the 2nds in Duchy League action:
