Reds give champions the champions elect a tough battle - Report by Ed Bawden.

Redruth gave a fully committed performance and were competitive throughout against the league leaders but went down by four tries to two. Rams now need two points from their visit to Clifton next week to secure automatic promotion to national one next season.

What the Reds can take away from the game was the spirit they showed after being 28 points down with 20 minutes to go, dominating the final quarter and pulling back two well taken tries by Dean Bonds.
All five of the Reds bench were under 20. It was a day to Remember for three players who made their debuts off the bench, scrum half Jamie Murray who has played for the club at all levels from under 7’s, Jamie Eddy formerly with Pirates Amateurs and Scott Butterworth from Truro College.
Former England Counties centre Neilson Webber put in a typically strong game mixing good hands with some big hits but late in the game he left the field in agony from a bicep injury that will end his season.

Conditions were good on a warm day, with Rams unbeaten at home and promotion possible depending on results a large expectant home crowd, many in shirt sleeves created a carnival atmosphere on the sidelines.
Less than four years ago the Reds hammered Rams 37-17 in their first game at this level, since that day they have built, adapted and improved day on day, their record of only two defeats this season is outstanding and good luck to them in National one next season.
Rams kicked deep in the opening plays to put early pressure on the Reds and scrum half Miles Lloyd went over from close range after 2 minutes for a try converted by Alex Seers.
The home side dominated territory and Redruth made forced to pull off many brave tackles to stay in the game. In a physical contest there were half a dozen injury stoppages on a firm ground.
Just a couple of minutes before the interval Craig Nightingale got the second try from close range after 38 minutes, Seers adding the extras to go in 14 points to the good.

Another close range try early in the second half, after the Reds were penalised twice near their own line, by Ben Henderson converted by Seers put the home team in a commanding position 21 points ahead, given they concede less than 14 points a game on average this season.
Redruth started to get their game going, Bonds broke from his own half to give Jack Simmons a good run and after patient work near the line looked set to score before Jak Rossiter intercepted and ran the length of the field to score the bonus point try.
Despite the setback the Reds were not deflated and following a break in midfield by Richie Kevern, a good pass from Webber put Bonds over for his first try after 64 minutes.
Redruth were having possession and position, they had a chance with a 5 meter line out but lost the line out before late in the game a good pass from Jack Oulton who had moved to fly half saw Bonds go race over for his second try.
