They say all good things have to come to an end and the irresistible force of the unbeaten run the 1st XV has enjoyed this season finally met the immovable object of a very strong Hinckley side. But this game could have gone either way and the Reds held their own for much of it so there is no disgrace whatsoever in the narrow defeat.
The result will just make the lads even more determined to get back to winning ways when the travel up to the Forest of Dean to face Cinderford. The Gloucestershire side have been frequent opponents over the last 25 years although we have lost touch for several seasons at a time when promotion and relegation has intervened. Since our first meeting back in season 2001/02 the record stand at P16 W10 D0 L6.
Last seasons honours were even, with the Reds going down 32-22 on a foggy November day at Dockham Road but gaining revenge last March with a 31-19 home win which many felt was one of the best performances of the season.
Cinderford are currently in 7th place in the table, equal on points with Taunton and Lymm. Last week the strength of their defence anchored a 28-20 win over Taunton at Summerfield Stadium.
The Forest of Dean, like Cornwall, has been a hotbed of rugby since the game started and Cinderford has been part of it since 1886. Like Redruth, many of their early players were miners, although of the coal variety rather than copper and tin. They topped National League Two South back in 2017/18 and remained at that level until the end of season 2023/24 when they were relegated along with Taunton.
