Another tough match in prospect for the 1st XV this weekend as we await the arrival of Hinckley, currently sitting in 2nd place in the table, four points behind the Reds. The Leicestershire side have lost just one match so far this season, a 27-19 home defeat by Luctonians on the first week of the campaign. Two weeks ago they recorded a 24-17 home win over Taunton. Last season Hinckley finished in 3rd place.
Redruth come to this game following a stunning 39-7 win on the road at Lymm, which will have made the long journey back a happy occasion. Good to get that particular trip out of the way early on. This is the best start to the season we have had for a very long time but, as every coach and player knows, the only important game is the next one.
We first encountered Hinckley back in season 2021/22 when we did the double over the Leicestershire side. That was the last season of the old National Two South into which Hinckley had been transferred from National 2 North in the on-going RFU game of musical chairs.
The record between our two sides currently stands at P10 W5 D1 L4. Last season the results went with home advantage, the Reds winning 27-10 here in December 2025 and losing 47-36 up at Leicester Road back in April.
Hinckley were founded back in 1892 in one of the most passionate rugby strongholds in the country. The game was put on a firm foundation back in the early 1900s when the Leicester Combination was founded which had a membership of 70 clubs playing in league and cup competitions. Like Bristol, who had a similar set up, they put two fingers up to the RFU who didn’t like that sort of thing at all. Too worried that if clubs were not allowed to continue choosing who they played against, posh upper-class chaps would get flattened by a burly labourer or miner
