There is always something special about the first game of a new season as we start with a clean sheet and much to hope for.

This is the first season for a long time in which we will not be welcoming any new faces to the Rec but we do have three returning sides, Devonport Services, Clifton and Bournville, and it is the last named that will get our league campaign underway.

Our visitors were last here back in January 2025 when the Reds ran out winners 33-10 in a match where our forwards dominated and Jack King was the well-deserved man of the match. By the time Bournville came to us they were already in the relegation zone and they finished in 13th place, 12 points behind Exeter University.

That win avenged a defeat up in Birmingham earlier in the season when our match preparation was completed disrupted after we arrived nearly two and a half hours late because of traffic disruption on the M5.

Bournville put in a stunning performance in Regional 1 Midlands last season, winning 18 of their 22 games and finishing in top spot which saw automatic promotion back to National Two West.

We first played Bournville in season 2022/23 when they had been level-transferred from National League 2 North in the league reorganisation. Our record against the Birmingham side is P6 W4 D0 L2.
