The Reds were edged out in the dying seconds of the game against Taunton last week so they will be looking to make amends with a trip to North Devon to face Barnstaple. Ironically Barnstaple also pulled off a last minute win at the Rec when they were the visitors back in November when two late tries saw them run out 27-26 winners.
Last weekend’s result saw us drop back to 10th place. It’s pretty tight in that part of the table with only three points separating Lymm in 11th place and Old Redcliffians in 8th.
Barnstaple are currently 5th after a 27-19 defeat on the road at Chester. The North Devon side have had a good run in the league this season after coming back up from Regional 1 South West to which they had been relegated at the end of the 2022/23 season.
Although our two clubs had fixtures back in the dim and distant past, we first met Barnstaple in the league in the 2016/17 season. Since then the results, from Redruth’s point of view have been P9 D0 L2 For 316 Against 112. The highest scoring game was a 63-14 Redruth win at home in season 2021/22, the lowest our 19-3 win away in the same season.
Barnstaple RFC, who refer to themselves modestly as ‘The Mighty Barum’ were founded in 1877 and by the beginning of the 1900s were one of Devon’s top sides rivalling Devonport Albion.
