As the days shorten, Redruth travel to the Forest of Dean this coming weekend to take on Cinderford. The Gloucestershire outfit dropped out of National 1 at the end of season 23/24 and last season saw the games between our two clubs go with home advantage.
The Reds will be desperate to throw off the nightmare of the final ten minutes of last week’s game against Barnstaple when they surrendered a 26-17 lead after going down to 13 men following yellow cards. Cinderford is the sort of club where firm discipline is essential.
Cinderford finished in seventh place in the table last season, just one point ahead of Redruth. They are currently in ninth place with four wins to their credit. Their last outing saw a 46-37 defeat at Chester in a game of 13 tries.
I’m thinking of suggesting to the Committee that they invite veteran touch judge, Fred Spong to be a honorary member of Redruth RFC. He has seen more Reds games this season than some of our supporters.
Referee: Peter Connor. Assistant Referees: Marius Botha - Fred Spong.
