The Reds travel to pastures new this coming Saturday with a long trip to Leicestershire to face newly promoted Syston. The boys travel off the back of their second win of this season after a hard-fought match against Lymm who battled back from a half time deficit to chase the Redruth lead all the way to the whistle.
Syston are located in the rugby heartland of Leicestershire, not far from Leicester Tigers, Loughborough, Hinckley and Leicester Lions. They were formed by pupils of a local grammar school back in 1887 and fetched up on their current ground in 1989.
Syston won promotion from Regional 1 Midlands at the end of last season, finishing the campaign undefeated with 21 wins and one draw, 17 points clear of our old friends, Stourbridge.
They are still finding their feet at this level. They had a tough baptism in the Forest of Dean when they went down 48-19 at Cinderford on the first week of the season. They then lost at home 50-34 in a 12 try game against Luctonians and last week were beaten 20-7 at Chester.
They are still a fully amateur side and, for those who fancy the trip up from Cornwall, they state on their website that they do not charge for admission.
The club will be showing the England v Canada Women’s World Cup Final in the clubhouse after the match.
