MATCH POSTPONED due to a frozen pitch.
This Saturday Redruth 1st XV set out on the long trip on Friday evening to take on Dudley Kingswinford RFC in a National League 2 West encounter.
Dudley Kingswinford have 3 senior sides, a Social side, a Vets side, a Ladies side and the full complement of age group sides. Their ground has an excellent clubhouse, a nice grandstand and has at least 2 more full size pitches plus numerous junior pitches. DK also have a running club based at their ground. In 1999 Dudley Kingswinford reached the final of the RFU Intermediate Cup at Twickenham losing to Aldwinians from Manchester by 21-10. Your correspondent actually saw them win their home semi-final against Barnstaple although I was firmly cheering for the away side.
Last season DK finished first in Midlands 1 earning promotion to level 4. This season has not gone how they would have planned so far and they only have a couple of wins to their name, both at home, against Chester 26-17 and Newport (Salop) 32-19. Outside of their wins the best display was when they pushed league leaders Luctonians close only losing 21-31. DK are placed 14th in the table with 12 points and have a -175 points difference. DK's top try scorers are Callum Nicholls (No.8) and Jasper Smith (Flanker) both with 5 and their top points scorer is Fred Morgan (scrum-half) with 53.
Last Saturday the Reds overcame Newport (Salop) by 40-26 in a display that saw them produce some excellent flowing rugby and run in 6 tries in the process. This puts the Reds into 7th place on 34 points with a -35 points difference.
The Reds leading try scorer is Frankie Nowell on 6 with Luke Barnes and Ben Fox hot on his heels with 5, Jordan Gott tops the points tally with 36.
This is believed to be the first meeting between the two clubs.
