After being held to a draw at home to Hornets in their previous match Hinckley hit form and were worthy bonus point winners over Redruth.
Some of the home fans felt the first half when Hinckley built up an 18 point lead was their best of the season and put them into an unassailable position.
For the Reds a score early in the second half was crucial, they won two scrum penalties in front of the posts and elected to carry on scrummaging but alas on the third occasion the Referees decision went in Hinckley’s favour and after a lot of effort Redruth left the 22 with no reward. A few minutes later Rory Vowles kicked a penalty to stretch the lead to 21 points and with half an hour to go the game was decided.
There was heavy rain overnight and in the morning before the match leaving the surface slippery, Hinckley were soon into their stride and Vowles opened the scoring with a penalty from 25 meters after nine minutes.
A good kick towards the right hand touchline opened up space in the Reds defence and full back Jamie Dutton chased hard to win the race to the ball in the corner, Vowles converting from the touchline with a great kick. A penalty a couple of minutes later took the home sides advantage to 13 after 21 minutes.
Redruth had field position and opportunity but their line out was unreliable and could not deliver quality ball to work off in the conditions.
Good play and handling from Hinckley ended with Ed Drake-Lee going over in the corner for an unconverted try after half an hour’s play.
Just before the interval Redruth lost Nat Dart to a yellow card for a deliberate knock down near the half way line.
Midway through the second half Redruth tried to keep the ball in play near the half way line but when it went loose Vowles was on it in a flash and raced away to touch down Hinckleys third try.
After this Redruth dominated territory for a long period with Hinckley getting three yellow cards in an eight minute spell for persistent offences near the try line. Redruth were going for tap penalties with Bailey Williams and Luke Barnes leading the charges as the home side defended desperately.
Against a seven man scrum Redruth put on another impressive drive forcing the home front row into the air and the Referee immediately went to the posts for a penalty try after 74 minutes.
In the closing stages replacement scrum half Ben Pointon saw plenty of ungarded space to go over for rhe bonus point try to the delight of the home supporters.
Next Saturday Redruth take on Newport (Salop) at the Recreation Ground with a 2pm kick-off.
