On Saturday the Reds make the short journey to Exeter to take on for the 1st time in league rugby the University side.
Referee: James Milliner.
Assistant Referees: Ian Pengelly & Rob Lowe.
If you are thinking of making the trip the students play at the University of Exeter Topsham Sport Ground, EX3 0LY. Beware, there isn't any cover at the ground so take a decent coat if the weather looks iffy.
The University side got off to a good start to their National 2 West campaign by beating Barnstaple by 31-23 last Saturday.
The problem in trying to preview the University side is that it's difficult to predict what team you are going to come up against as Exeter field both a Saturday League side and a midweek Bucs side, the later of which has been considered their best or 1st team in previous years. Their pre-season has been excellent with wins over Brixham, Guernsey, Plymouth Albion and Taunton and only one defeat a narrow reverse against Albion. But what team will the Reds play on Saturday? For instance the team that overcame Barnstaple only contained 5 players who narrowly lost to Albion and there were 12 University players in the Exeter Chiefs squad who played against the Pirates recently plus 4 in the squad at Ulster, so your guess is as good as mine, and probably better!
The Reds season could not have started better, the promising defeat of Plymouth Albion in pre-season was bettered by last weeks comfortable win over Stourbridge, who to be fair to them were probably not at full strength. This match celebrated the 300th appearance for hooker Richard Brown who starts his 2nd 300 on Saturday!
If you can't make the match please support the 2nd team as they take on Helston at home.
