On Saturday Redruth welcome to the Recreation Ground for the first time Hornets RFC. Hornets if you are not aware are based in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset which is a seaside town at high tide and inland at low tide!
Hornets run 3 senior sides, a ladies side and the full quota of mini-junior sides. Playing at the Nest they have benefited from having a RFU 3G pitch and have ambitious plans to expand their clubhouse. Hornets were promoted to Level 3 after finishing 3rd last season in the South West Premier League.
Hornets results have not gone as they would have hoped so far this season, losing away at Leicester lions by 28-17 and narrowly at home against Barnstaple by 22-23.
Their kicker is Jamie Elswood (Fly-Half) and their top try scorer is Charlie Carter (Full-Back) on 2 trys.
The Reds come into this match after a 42-29 reverse against the free flowing Exeter University side last week, a match that was closer than the scoreline suggests and on another day might have seen the Reds come out on top.
The Reds will be looking to build on the comprehensive home win over Stourbridge on the first game of the season.
Subject to selection this week should mark the 300th Redruth appearance for Craig Williams who has been one of the best props at level 4 for many a year. A great achievement I'm sure all will agree. Another Redruth player has a big day as well on Saturday as flanker Mark Grubb makes his 100th appearance for the Reds and earns the coveted Red Blazer, well done Mark.
