On Friday evening Redruth RFC make the trip to Luctonians RFC in what is believed to be the first meeting between the two sides.
Luctonians play their rugby at Mortimore Park, Kingsland near Leominster in Herefordshire. It's about a 550 mile round trip going via the M5 or a fare bit shorter if you opt for the slow scenic route via the Forest of Dean. They have a very picturesque looking ground with a stand that is similar in size to Launceston's to keep out the elements. Interestingly they are not just a rugby club and their facilities also support cricket, cycling, netball, golf, rounders, a running club, archery, air rifle club and even a Pétanque Society!
In the 2020/21 season Luctonians finished in 8th place in National 2 North having won 14 of their 30 games and given their results so far this season then this will prove a tough test for the Reds.
This season Luctonians have won 3 of their 5 matches, the 3 wins have come against Barnstaple, Bournville and Old Redcliffians and their 2 defeats against Dings Crusaders and Leicester Lions who currently occupy the top two places in the league. This leaves them in 7th place with 16 points and have a +51 points difference. Luctonians kicker seems to be Louis Silver (scrum-half) although if the RFU site is to believed Ben Link (hooker) popped a few kicks over in their last match!
The Reds will be looking to wipe away their travel blues and notch up their first away win on Saturday. The last home game could hardly have gone any better with a 14 try, 95-7 demolition of Newport (Salop) RFC so confidence should be high. The Reds previous two away matches have both ended in defeats in games that on other days may well have been won. Redruth are now in 6th place with 17 points and have a +114 points difference.
Stats: Frazer Honey has already notched up 71 points and try wise Dean Bonds & Will Trewin both have 4 and on 3 are Bear Williams and hookers, Mackensie Oliver and Richard Brown.
Referee: James Dowds
Assistant Referees: Fred Spong & Andrew Torrens
