On Saturday morning Redruth RFC make the relatively short trip to Old Redcliffians RFC.
The Old Reds play their rugby at Scotland Lane, Brislington, Bristol, BS4 5LU. If you are travelling beware the last 5 miles can take some time navigating the traffic jams of the city. The Old Reds have 5 pitches, 1 of which is floodlit, a well appointed Gym and use of a 400 metre running track in the summer. Their main pitch which the clubhouse overlooks is not unlike the Redruth Albany pitch in its size, slopes and contours.
In the 2021/22 season Old Reds finished in 2nd place in the old South West Premier, winning 23 of their 26 games, thus earing promotion via the league reorganisation. Incidentally they beat Camborne by 82-21 and 12-38 in their 2 fixtures.
This season the Old Reds have won 3 of their 7 matches, 2 wins have come away from home against Barnstaple & Bournville and 1 at home on the 1st day of the season against Newport (Salop). In their defeats the Old Reds have lost 3 matches very convincingly but pushed high fliers Dings Crusaders close only being edged out by 29-32. This leaves them in 10th place with 16 points and have a -42 points difference. Luctonians kicker is Ashley Groves (fly-half) who has racked up 56 points.
This will be Redruth's 3rd trip to Old Reds and it has not been a happy hunting ground with the previous 2 being 34-12 and 51-24 defeats.
The Reds will be looking to continue their good form, the crushing home win over Newport (Salop) being backed up by a win on the road to Luctonians and last weeks stunning performance in beating Dings by 49-19. The foundation for this being a sumptuous first 18 mins as the reds ran in 4 converted tries and the Rec was bouncing. Redruth are now in 5th place with 27 points and have a +155 points difference. Leicester Lions have now taken over at the top but are only 4 points ahead of the Reds in what is shaping up to be a very tight league this season.
Stats: Frazer Honey has already notched up 93 points and try wise Dean Bonds has 6, Will Trewin 5 and the front row trio of Mackensie Oliver, Richard Brown and Tommy Philips are on 4.
Referee: Tom Evans-Jones
Assistant Referees: Brian Ravenhill-Adam Carpenter
