On Saturday Redruth welcome to the Recreation Ground for what we believe is the first time Bournville RFC.
Our opponents are based in the city of Birmingham, playing at Bournbrook which is part of the University campus. Originally they were a closed club for the employees of Cadbury but these are open to all and have 3 senior men’s sides, a veterans team, 2 senior women’s sides and a full mini-junior set-up for both boys and girls. Considering the Cadbury connection it’s not surprising that they are nicknamed the ‘Chocos’ or ‘Chocolatiers’.
Bournville are not having a season to remember, so far they have lost all of their games and are in 14th place with 7 points. They have not been hammered though and could easily have had 3 wins, having lost narrowly to Old Reds 20-24, Dings 45-41 and Hinckley 19-20. Last Saturday will probably go down as their most disappointing result losing at home to Barnstaple by 14-37. Last season in National 2 North they finished in 13th place having won 8 matches.
The Old Reds kicking duties seem to have been shared between Mitchell McGahan (Fly-Half) 25 points and Max Craven (Centre) 23 points.
The Reds come into this match on a 4 game winning streak having overcome a dogged and determined Old Reds side by 14-26 last Saturday. Not a game that will live long in the memory other than it saw the visit of the Air Ambulance for an Old Reds player who suffered a nasty leg injury. We of course wish him well in his recovery.
Fraser Honey continues to rack up the points and is now on 99 (12.37/game), the top try scorers are Dean Bonds and Will Trewin on 6, with the front row trio of Richard Brown, MacKenzie Oliver and Tommy Phillips on 4.
Look out for team news on Friday.

Interesting Fact
1. We will be playing a number of teams this season who have 3G pitches, Stourbridge, Dings Crusaders, Loughborough University, Hornets and this Saturday’s visitors Bournville. Insert your own joke here about the Reds still doing it on grass etc.
