On Saturday Redruth RFC host for the first time Luctonians RFC.
Luctonians play their rugby at Mortimore Park, Kingsland near Leominster in Herefordshire. They have a very picturesque looking ground with a stand that is similar in size to Launceston's to keep out the elements. Interestingly they are not just a rugby club and their facilities also support cricket, cycling, netball, golf, rounders, a running club, archery, air rifle club and even a Pétanque Society! Anybody fancy starting a Pétanque Society at Redruth?
Luctonians were fantastic hosts when the Reds visited earlier in the season, you would have to search long and hard to find a friendlier club. The pre-match lunch was comfortably the most entertaining I have attended with a most amusing compere. This continued after the match and the Reds were sent on their way home by the news over the PA that the 'Victorious Pasty eating b*******s' are leaving the building'! This may sound insulting but it was anything but, you had to be there!
For the record the Reds won that match by 22-33 in a game that could have gone either way. If he plays look out for their diminutive No.8
Aiden Cheshire who is a very powerful broken field runner.
Like Redruth Lucs game last Saturday was frozen off, their last match being a 23-3 defeat at league leaders Leicester Lions.
To date this season Lucs have won 9 of their 15 games and sit in 7th place on 48 points with a +193 points difference. Their best win was probably a 7-41 victory away at Clifton. Their top points scorer is Silver (Scrum-Half) on 103 and their top try scorer is Link (Hooker) on 10.
With last Saturday's match at Newport falling victim to global warming in the form of a frozen pitch the Reds come into this match after an excellent and disciplined performance in victory by 24-5 against Hinckley.
Redruth by virtue of that win are now in 4th place with 56 points and have a +206 points difference.
Stats: Frazer Honey has notched up 155 points the highest at Level 4. Try wise Richard Brown now leads the way on 11 which makes him the 2nd highest in National league 2 West. The Reds are the highest scorers in National 2 West at home with 337 points.
Referee: Neil Sweeney
Assistant Referees: Ian Pengelly & Andy Bickle.
After match entertainment from Vince Hall followed by DJ Iggy Karaoke.
Look out for teams news on Friday morning.
