On Saturday morning make the relatively short trip to Barnstaple RFC.
For anybody who is thinking of travelling Barnstaple play at Pottington Road, it's easy to find, just go over the new(ish) bridge, turn right at the end, queue in traffic for 15 mins and then turn right at the 1st set of traffic lights (simples).
Barnstaple RFC are nicknamed "Barum", which is a contraction of the Latin form of the name ad Barnastapolitum and also much easier to shout when supporting the team.
Barnstaple have not had a great season and have found themselves in a relegation fight. At present they sit in 13th place on 29 points after winning 5 of their 22 matches and have a -265 points difference. Possibly their best victory came early in the season when they won on the 'plastic fantastic' at Hornets by 22-27.
Last time out Barnstaple lost 26-3 away to 2nd place Clifton which is a creditable result.
Top try scorer for Barum is J.Kelly (flanker) on 6 and top points scorer is J.Murphy (fly-half) 118.
The Reds come into this match after a difficult match away at Newport in Shropshire where a very youthful side battled hard to at least come away with a 4 try bonus point. Only 8 of the 20 man squad that took to the field in the previous encounter with Newport were able to travel to Shropshire and of those 8 only 4 were in there correct positions! The threequarters had an average age of 20 and it only reached that giddy height due to the 'old man' of the backs Lewis Thomas being an ancient 27! The bench wasn't much older and had an average age of 21.
The forwards had a more experienced look about them but even here it wasn't straightforward, Ben Fox (flanker) packed down in the 2nd row and the back row had Luke Barnes (prop) at blindside and Mackenzie Oliver (hooker) at openside. Mackenzie due to injuries in the match finished up playing at centre!
Redruth currently stand in 6th place on 68 points having won 13 of their 22 matches and have a +141 points difference.
Stats: Frazer Honey has notched up 165 points and try wise Richard Brown leads the way on 16 which makes him the equal highest try scorer in National 2 West.
Referee: Callum Davies
Assistant Referees: Paul Hill & Rob Lowe
