Wild and windy at the Recreation Ground!

Although the score line shows a comprehensive victory for Albion it fails to tell the true tale of a match where play was much more even than the numbers suggest. Redruth chose to field an inexperienced squad giving some of the younger players match time against the National 1 side, Albion in contrast were at full strength. To a man they stood up and it was mainly Albion's ability to strike from anywhere that was the difference between the two sides. For Albion Shea Cornish stood out with his powerful running and dancing feet marking him out as a player who will feature heavily in the try scoring charts this season.

On a very blustery day Albion chose to play downhill with the 40-50 mile/hour winds and it was they who struck first with at trademark catch and drive try for Wilkinson. With 10 mins on the clock Albion scored another running the ball from a scrum in the Reds half the quick movement of Cornish saw him go over. A crossfield kick on 20 mins opened up the Reds defence and Groves went over to make it 21-0. The Reds now had a god period of possession and field position. A storming run from Bailey Williams broke the Albion defence and a smart off-load to his fellow prop Luke Barnes saw him burst clear only to be held up on the line after a 25 metre run. Not much later the Reds forced a 5 metre line-out and centre Sam James burst out of the maul to scamper over for an unconverted try on 30 mins. Albion then added a catch and drive try and then with the Reds camped on the Albion line the ball was lost forward and Albion went the length of the field to score another try on the stroke of half-time.
Half-Time: Redruth 5 - 31 Plymouth Albion

The second half saw the Reds have use of the strong (but dropping) wind and the slope. Almost immediately they took advantage and Bailey Williams powered over for close to the line. After the Reds having the better of things territorially for the next 15 mins it was Albion who struck next with a long range try for Putt. This was followed by two more long range tries by Groves and Morgan. Redruth did manage to get on the scoresheet once more as another dazzling Albion backs move was cut short as Charlie Levick intercepted a Jack Olton pass to race over under the posts. There was just time for Albion to add two more long range tries to put a gloss on the scoresheet from their point of view.
