Redruth v Plymouth Albion

Rugby gets underway at the Recreation Ground on Saturday with the Reds taking on our old friends from just across the border. Albion have always been one of the best sides in the South West both back in the old amateur era and now in the days of league rugby. After finishing 5th in National 1 last season Albion have recruited strongly over the close season and have made no secret that they are striving for promotion to the Championship. The top points scorer for Albion last season was Thomas Putt (Full-Back) with 127 points and their top try scorers were Harry Wilkinson (hooker) on 19 and Jamie Salter (also hooker!) on 10, so expect to see a very powerful rolling maul on Saturday!

This will be both sides first game under the new tackle rules so expect a few penalties and puzzled spectators (and maybe puzzled players). Look out for former Reds Jack Oulton and Brad Howe in the Albion side.

In the pre-season friendly last year the Reds came out on top in a close fought match by 26-24 so no doubt Albion will be looking for revenge.

As ever in these preseason matches it will be interesting to see how the Reds new signings shape up alongside more familiar faces.
