2000+ witness another local derby classic.

You wait ages for a draw and then two come along at once!
Despite both clubs fielding much changed sides from the match some ten days earlier, the Reds making 9 changes to their starting line-up and Camborne 6 the sides again could not be separated and once again a draw was probably the right result. Camborne had much the better of the first 40 and roared into a 28-0 lead at the break, whereas the 2nd period saw the Reds show great spirit to score 28 unanswered points to tie the match.

Camborne started the proceedings playing down the slope with the benefit of a breeze that was probably stronger then it felt. Some early Reds pressure was cleared when Camborne broke out down the narrow side with, in a surprise selection, former Red Lewis Vinnicombe making a strong run out of defence. Camborne got on the front foot and from a position in the Reds half a quick break down the narrow side saw the move ended by the impressive Jordan Nicholls to put 'Town' 7-0 up on 8 mins. Redruth almost hit back immediately, some good phase play ended with Sam James going over but the try was correctly disallowed for a double movement, this was about as good as it got for the Reds in the first 40. Things soon got worse for the Reds when Edson, who was looking sharp in the centre, cut through the Reds and passed to Harry Larkins who had a run in under the post to put the hosts 14-0 to the good on 13 mins. The Reds scrum was looking good and they managed to force a couple of penalties but little ground was being made with the kicks to touch. Larkins almost had another but a good tackle cut him down, this was only a short reprieve for the Reds as a few phases later Tommy-Lee Southworth was over for a converted try. The Reds were looking rattled and Camborne rampant, a simple dropped catch from a kick ahead gifted Camborne position in the Reds half. A penalty was put into touch and the maul did the rest with Ben Priddey coming up with the ball, Aaron Simmonds converted to make in 28-0. There was still time for another Camborne attack and the half ended with 'Town' being held up over the line. At this stage the winner looked nailed on, but how things can change in rugby.
Half-Time: Camborne 28 - 0 Redruth

Redruth came out for the 2nd period a different team and whatever was said in the changing rooms, it worked. Camborne were immediately under pressure and conceded a penalty which was put into the corner. Strong defence stopped the maul from gaining ground but after a number of pick-an-goes Sam Stevens was over for a converted try on 42 mins. Redruth were after more and immediately were back in the Camborne 22, a line-out peel move saw hooker Harry Hocking throw an outrageous dummy to put harry Andrewartha through a gap, the centre made no mistake using his quick feet to beat the last man, 28-14 on 46 mins, game on. Camborne now had an opportunity from a line-out in the Reds 22 but the now fired up defence was secure. Redruth were next to attack and a penalty was put deep into the hosts 22, the maul was stopped just short but illegally. The Reds opted for a scrum which promptly hit the deck, the ball was moved and after a few phases Sam James forced his way over and with 15 to go there was only 7 points between the teams. Straight from the kick-off the Reds were back on the attack, and a good charging run followed by a kick ahead took play into the Camborne 22. From a line-out the Reds were all over the Camborne line but were met with stiff defence and the attack faltered following a knock-on from a loose pass. The pressure did not cease though and following another 5 metre line-out Tyler Gendall was over for a try converted by Dan Rutter on 75 mins to tie up the scores. Camborne fashioned a couple of good field positions in the final few minutes but were met by a determined Reds defence. For their part the Reds had a series of phases on and around half-way but could not make the break through to pressure the Camborne defence. As ever both teams will look at things that could have gone differently but in the end honours were even.

Tommy Phillips was deservedly awarded the 'Tony Pill Cup' for his man-of the match performance.
