How have our senior teams been doing this season?
1st XV National Division 2 West
In early November after a disappointing defeat at bottom placed Devonport Services Redruth supporters could have been forgiven for looking down the league in a nervous fashion, 3 wins in 8 outings did not look great. But 3 wins and an excellent away draw at high flying Taunton in the next 5 fixtures have changed things greatly and we can now look forward to climbing up the league in 2025.
The statistics are:
7th Place: Played 14, Won 6, Drawn 1 and Lost 7.
38 points.
Points difference is +19.

Leading Points Scorer: Dean Wills 111

Mention must be made to the 3 matches against our near neighbours. These 3 games have been watched by over 8000 thousand spectators and each has been a classic in its own right. The first game looked like being a slaughter with Camborne 43-0 up with only a few minutes remaining of the first half. For the sanity of Reds fans the team galvanised itself and staged a remarkable comeback that had Town hanging on at the end with the final score being 35-43. Remarkably only 7 points were scored at the Hellfire Corner end! The 2nd match before Christmas was a nip and tuck affair in high winds at Camborne with possibly only a late interception try being the difference between the two sides, Camborne wining by 24-14. The final act in the trilogy came on Boxing Day when both sides made wholesale changes from 5 days before; Camborne 12 changes, Redruth 10. Redruth proved that they have the greater squad depth and came out on top by 26-0 to lift the Roddas Cup. The aggregate score line from the three matches reads Redruth 75 Camborne 67, happy days! Camborne of course will point to 2 wins out of 3, chose the statistic your prefer!
2nd XV - Counties 1 Tribute Western West (such a snappy title)
After storming to promotion last season could the young Redruth side adapt to life at the higher level? The fixture gods had been kind with many fixtures clashing with 1st XV games. The club with the assistance of our opponents were able to change a number of these but it led to a somewhat lopsided fixture list with a lot of away fixtures in the early half of the season. The first three matches required bus trips to Devon against sides that were all tipped to challenge for the league title. This coupled with a lot of injury at the club saw the young Reds go down to 3 straight defeats, 2 of these being comprehensive. That said there were obvious signs that the Reds could cope at this level and the team certainly enjoyed to the bus trips home to the full! The first victory came at home to Bideford and they 2's were off and rolling. The next 9 matches yielded 7 wins and the two defeats were not without credit. 2025, injuries not withstanding should see the 2's climb up the league standings.
The statistics are:
7th Place: Played 12, Won 7, Lost 5.
33 points.
Points difference is -28.
Leading Try Scorers: Ben Smith 5 and 8 players on 2 tries.
Leading Points Scorer: Ash Hosking 50.
Most Appearances: Cam Leigh 12, Lewis Wills 11, Tom Jago 10.
47 (yes 47) players used in total so far!
