A large crowd were well entertained by two sides who threw the ball around and ran with pace and power despite the rainstorms that hit the ground just before the game and during the second period.

In a see-saw encounter at the Recreation Ground the young men of Berkshire just held on at the end to gain a deserved victory. The visitors dominated large portions of the game with their half backs running the show but Cornwall's grit and determination kept them in the game. Down 18 points with only 20 minutes left and seemingly out of the game Cornwall stormed back to within 6 points only to concede an interception try. To make matters worse the score was by a player called Bassett! The 'Black and Gold' shrugged off this setback, to again get back to 6 points behind, with a converted try with only minutes left on the clock. This left Cornwall needing a converted try and having to run a very kickable penalty in the dying seconds of the game. They could have though been only 3 points adrift as one of the Berkshire conversions had hit two posts before going over and the ball fell off the kicking tee just as Cornwall were attempting a conversion. On such twists of fate matches turn. Cornwall's last attack ended with a knock-on when deep in the visitors 22 and the chance of completing a valiant comeback was over.
