Last play disappointment for the Reds - Report by Bill Hooper

MATCH SPONSORS: THE PENVENTON PARK HOTEL

An unconverted try from lock David Hyde with the final play of the game sealed a vital win for the Hawks in the battle between two sides battling near the top of the table.
The result sees Redruth slip to fifth place in the National League 2 South standings ahead of next week’s trip to Old Albanian.
Redruth head coach Pale Nonu was naturally disappointed his side had missed out at the end. “It’s disappointing to miss out in such a tight game. Henley are the in-form side at the moment, we made them work hard for their points. Disappointingly we gave away too many penalties in the second half and ended up paying the price.”
Henley, playing down the slope, camped in the Redruth twenty-two from the off eventually getting the score when prop George Primett crashed over following a series of pick and goes near the posts allowing full-back Finn Pietersen a straight forward conversion.
Redruth stormed back with some inspirational play from scrum-half Jack Oulton who was a thorn in the Henley side all afternoon, he was involved in Redruth’s opening try along with No.8 Brad Howe who’s pass found Todd Prisk in space allowing the lock to barge over in the corner for an unconverted try.
Henley continued to enjoy the lion share of territory with flanker Tom Hall putting in a big shift. Skipper Sam Lunnon was having an inspirational game for the visitors winning a stream of lineout ball. Sadly for Redruth the lineout proved problematic all afternoon.
George Wood made a strong run down his wing before putting in a cross-kick that agonisingly was missed by all in-goal before going dead.
Right on half-time it was Redruth who got their noses ahead with a well-worked try in the corner for wing Brad Janes to go in 10-7 up.

The Hawks again started the stronger in the second half as their early possession was rewarded with an unconverted try from Wood in the corner.
The nip and tuck nature of the game continued as Redruth’s Aaron Simmonds lined up a forty metre penalty and promptly split the uprights.
Henley, having being denied a try by a last ditch tackle from Redruth’s centre Jack Simmons up in the scoreboard corner, eventually regained the lead with a Pietersen penalty.
With the game now into the final ten minutes Redruth earned another penalty which Simmonds kicked to restore his side’s slender lead.
A string of penalties kicked to the corner led to Hyde’s late score sealing the win for the Hawks to the delight of their travelling support and the frustration of the home faithful.
