Reds lift the Roddas Milk Cup for the 15th time in 18 contests.

The major winner today was the sport of rugby in Cornwall as for the 1st time in over 9 months we got to see the oval ball thrown around the Recreation ground in a competitive match. The Reds Executive committee and Match & Grounds volunteers must take great credit for ensuring the game went ahead and that all were kept safe.

Warm applause greeted both teams as they ran onto the field into the Cornish mizzle and as the game went on increasingly high winds.
Redruth kicked off towards the Piggy Lane corner and were immediately on the attack and took the lead after 3 mins through a Frazer Honey penalty. Further Reds pressure forced another penalty and it came as a surprise that the usually immaculate Frazer Honey was off target, the ball striking the post and Camborne were able to clear their lines.
It was becoming evident that the Reds were missing the power aspects of the game with their strong 8 unable to stamp their authority on the game through the usual avenue of scrums and mauls. The new temporary rules definitely favour the defending sides with space being at a premium and Camborne, with their hard working back row of Rose, Priddey and Nicholls to the fore, were getting their hands in the rucks and looking to slow the ball down at every opportunity. At the 20 min 'water break' there had been no addition to the score.
The second quarter saw Reds territorial dominance but they were struggling to break down the committed Camborne defence. Eventually though the pressure told with Arron Simmonds going over in the Piggy Lane corner for an unconverted try.
Half-Time: Redruth 8 - 0 Camborne

The 2nd half followed the pattern of the first with the Reds quickly adding to their tally with 2 well taken Frazer Honey penalties. On 53 mins former Red Jon Drew earnt himself 10 mins in the sin bin with some unnecessary back-chat to the referee. Camborne now down to 14 men battled hard but the Reds got over the line again with a quickly taken tap-and-go penalty by live wire scrum-half Jack Oulton who slide over the line by the Tribute Suite. Frazer Honey converted well from wide out. Despite defending with great tenacity Camborne were unable to establish any sustained attacking moves and any visits to the Reds 22 were repulsed with the Reds using the storm force wind to good effect. Surprisingly there were no further additions to the score line and the Reds ran out comfortable winners.
Full-Time: Redruth 21 - 0 Camborne.

Referee: Will Gilder
Assistant Referees: Kevin Williams & Fergus Donnelly
A special mention should go to the officials; a Boxing Day derby is never easy to officiate at the best of times without having a new set of rules thrown into the mix. Well done gentlemen.
