DoR Nigel Hambly introduces the new forwards coach.

Hi all, hope this message finds you all well and safe. Just wanted to update you on what's happening at the club with regards to training and to inform you there has been a change in the coaching staff.

Training has been very well attended with at least 50 different players attending the 9 sessions and thoroughly enjoying what we have delivered. Yes, it's been a challenge with the COVID restrictions but we are happy with where we are in regards to where we are moving forward into the upcoming season. Things have moved forward with the RFU releasing the next level so we are now at level D. We can start to do line outs and rucking with restricted numbers and at a 15min time limit, it’s a big step in the right direction and the players will enjoy getting back to some sort of normality in regards to rugby. Also, as coaches it now lets us start to formulate game plans etc. It's also been great to have quite a few fans watching the lads' train, so thank you to the ones that have turned up.

The change in the coaching set up has come with the decision to terminate Chris Fuca’s forwards coaching contract. Chris has lacked motivation and interest in training and not attended any sessions so far this season. This has led to some questions from the players asking where he is and why he hasn’t been attending training. I made several attempts to get Chris to training but he decided it was not what he wanted at this time. I understand with the current climate in regards to training that we as coaches kept the safe recommended distance from the players. We as a coaching team need to keep the players motivated and interested in these difficult times and with players travelling from all around Cornwall to train, I felt a decision had to be made. After much thinking and agonizing over this decision I decided that in the best interests of the players, coaches and club this was the right way forward. It was not a decision I made lightly I can assure you!

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Fuc’s for his contribution to a fantastic season last year. He was a huge part of that successful team and deserves all the plaudits he received. He has stated he’ll stay on as a player and will help with the coaching where required and that’s fantastic news for us at Redruth.

I’ve moved swiftly to replace Fuc’s and have appointed Louie Tonkin as the forwards coach for the upcoming season. Louie is the forwards at the Exeter Chiefs Academy and has an excellent coaching CV and I've no doubt he’ll fit in at Redruth and continue to push us forward as a team and a club and I look forward to working with Louie in the upcoming season.
