All rugby activity suspended during the nationwide lockdown.

Copied below is a CRFU press release issued as Cornwall went into Tier 3 which was superseded by the National Lockdown, see also the NCA communication post lockdown.

In accordance with lockdown rules Redruth RFC will be closed to all activity until further notice. But rest assured we will be back on the field at the earliest opportunity having proved on Boxing day that Redruth RFC are fully capable of running Covid secure rugby matches.

Stay safe and stay optimistic.

PRESS RELEASE FROM CORNWALL RFU –FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
You will have seen the news that the county has moved into tier 3 with all that that entails. You may also have seen the RFU guidance to tier 3 and the implications of that.
The CRFU have taken a responsible view all through Covid and I hope you’ll agree we have not only kept clubs informed as to RFU developments but also offered assistance to any club who has either asked or needed it. For that reason we wanted to act quickly on the above.
As a constituent body we think it would be fool hardy to endorse any form of competition and to that aim have suspended the start of our clusters until end of January when we will update.
I know this will be disappointing to some but please think of the big picture. The County has already had players tested positive, and I’m sure we all want to support our NHS, with cases on the increase.
To that aim the colts, U16s and the County DPP* will also be suspended until 31st January when the position will be reviewed.
The Govt are reassessing the situation in a fortnight and we of course will be guided by any changes.
The situation now is simple, as a CB we cannot stop you playing friendlies but we would urge you to consider the possible consequences. The RFU allow this but with strict restrictions, please see their website.
2020 has been an awful year for us all, let’s hope 2021 is better for all sport and especially Cornish rugby.

Afternoon

The anticipated lockdown announcement on Monday and the consequent cessation of rugby at our level suggests that it is unlikely that any contact rugby will be permissible before the end of February earliest in most of the country. This means that the proposed cup competition would have to run well into the summer months. However the format could be changed to run over shorter periods.
We suspected that this was going to happen which is why we had organised the four divisional meetings in week starting 18th January so that we could gauge what our clubs want the NCA to do. It would be good if as many clubs as possible could be represented and that the representatives can put forward their clubs’ views.
Please see the email below which the RFU Competitions Committee have asked to be circulated to all clubs in the RFU leagues.
“Due to the additional restrictions announced yesterday to combat the spread of Covid-19, the RFU has regretfully decided to cancel both the adult male & female Cluster Fixtures (for teams that play in RFU Leagues).
The focus will now switch to the following:
Facilitating fixtures through local organising committees as and when conditions allow a return to playing rugby which could extend into the summer months.
Ensuring any extension does not encroach on the 2021/22 season start date.
Any further announcements will be made following the next Government review when we know what rugby activity is permitted. In the meantime, your local organising committee will be in touch with specific information for your region.”

Best wishes

Secretary
National Clubs Association
