On Saturday the 2's travel to Perranporth RFC in what will be another tough 'Counties 2 Tribute Cornwall' league match with a 2.30pm kick-off.
Perranporth were founded in 1962 and play their rugby at The Droop, Budnic Hill, Ponsmere Valley. There is a fascinating history on the clubs website, well worth a read. If you ignore last Saturdays match between Redruth & Saltash, Perranporth are the team who have come closest to beating either of the top two sides so a close match is in prospect. The Brewers are currently in 3rd place having won 8 of their 11 matches and have 39 points and a +240 points difference. Their top try scorer is Oliver Roots (full-back) with 9 and their top points scorer is Justyn Irons (fly-half) with 129. A former Red in the shape of veteran Ashely Lawton may well make an appearance for the Brewers.
Last season Perranporth were runaway winners of Counties 3 Cornwall winning 16 of their 18 matches.
The Redruth 2nds notched up win number 11 last Saturday with a fantastic 33-24 win over Saltash in front of a crowd of around 200. This win keeps up their 100% win and maximum points record and lifts them to the top of the table on 55 points with a +412 points difference. Saltash are in 2nd place 4 points behind.
At present their leading scorer Dean Wills is also the leagues leading scorer with 188 points and Jayden Oakes is the team's leagues highest try scorer with 11 although he is out for a few weeks after injuring his shoulder in the warm up when on 1st XV duty.
