On Saturday the 2's take on Saltash in a 'Counties 2 Tribute Cornwall' top of the table league match with a 2.30pm kick-off.
Both teams are unbeaten and are only separated by points difference, its going to be a cracker.
Saltash were founded in 1969 and play there rugby at Moorlands Lane a few miles from the river Tamar making them the 2nd closest Cornish team to Devon. Launceston get this dubious honour as their ground is right beside, and sometimes in, the river Tamar. Saltash field two senior sides and a full complement of age group sides.
Last season Saltash finished 2nd behind St.Ives in 'Counties 2 Tribute Cornwall' and seem determined to go one better this season. Thus far they have played 10 and won 10 for a maximum 50 league points and a +486 points difference and it is this points difference that sees them top the table. The closest any side has come to challenging them is when they played at Perranporth and 'only' ran out 39-18 winners!
Saltash don't record their stats on the RFU site so I can't point their top scorers unfortunately.
Last season the two matches between the two clubs had Saltash win comfortably at home by 56-15 and back at the Recreation Ground the sides fought out an entertaining 23-23 draw.
The Redruth 2nds notched up win number 10 last Saturday but not in a way they would have liked with a 'walkover' win over Helston in what was already a rearranged match. This keeps up their 100% win and maximum points record and leaves them in 2nd place on 50 points with a +403 points difference.
At present their leading scorer Dean Wills is also the leagues leading scorer with, altogether now, 180 points and Jayden Oakes is the leagues highest try scorer with 11. Perranporth are also the team that has come closest to the Reds in the match back at the beginning of the season when the Reds won 34-17 at home.
This is going to be a massive test for the young Redruth side which predominately features players from the last 3 years of Colts rugby plus a few seasoned older heads. Please give them your support.
